Specialty of Shri Bhairavnath Temple, Kolgiri

Shri Bhairavnath Temple is located in the Kolgiri village of Jath taluk, Sangli district, Maharashtra state, India. This temple is situated in the pacific environment between hills and windmills. There are large tamarind and banyan trees around the temple. This temple was built by Badami Chalukyas in the 11th century. Later, Kalchuri and Yadav dynasty kings renovated it. Architectural designs are seen on the walls of the temple. This temple is dedicated to the lord Bhairavnath. Bhairavnath is an incarnation of Lord Shiva.

This temple is in Chalukya style and has 3 Garbh Gruha. Inside the temple, you get to see a stone inscription. It is in the Old Kannada language. Outside the temple, you get to see some broken stone crafts. Some war tactics and self-defense techniques are drawn on these crafts. Here you will find some Virgal (Hero Stones / Bravery Stones). Virgal also called Veer Stambh. Usually, Virgal stones were established to honor the brave men. You will find such Virgal in ancient temples. Here one wrestling ground is also there. Every year a fair takes place on the third Monday of Shravan month. Here a lot of fun elements are there for Kids to play. This place is best for a one-day family trip. While going please carry your food and water.
