History of Anantpur Fort

Anantpur Fort has located in the Anantpur village of Athani taluk in the Belagavi district of Karnataka state, India. This fort is next to Jath-Jamboti State Highway near the Anantpur village. This fort was built by the Raste kings who were the feudatories of the Peshwas of Pune. People used to call the Raste kings Raste Sarkar. Anantpur village was under the administration of Anand Rao Madhav Rao Raste. During his administration, this village was called Anandpur. Later this Anandpur became the Anantpur.

According to the villagers of Anantpur, Raste kings were the devotees of lord Vishnu. There was also a beautiful Vishnu temple inside this fort. But now it is destroyed. There is a big lake next to this fort. When the Sultans of Bijapur attacked this village, the Raste king sold this fort to the local people and fled away.

There were seven big wadas around this fort. But the people here have destroyed everything in the greed for treasure and have sold the soil. Now there is nothing special left to see in Anantpur Fort. Only remnants are left. Now Anantpur Fort is just a memory.

The Raste kings had built an Amba Bhavani temple in this village. This temple is still there in this village. The people of the Gondhali family worship this temple. Special pooja is performed every morning and in the evening. If you come to Anantpur then definitely visit Amba Bhavani temple.
