Shri Basaveshwar temple is located in the Balligeri village of Athani taluk, Belagavi district, Karnataka state, India. It is a nearly 800+ years old historical temple built during the period of Chalukyas. Now, this temple is partially destroyed. There is beautiful architecture inside the temple. But many of the Idols and sculptures have been disfigured.

        There is one old stone inscription outside this temple. But no one knows what is written in it. Research is needed. Some senior villagers say that an immense treasure has been kept hidden in front of this temple in a small secret treasure temple. Seven venomous snakes are guarding this treasure. How to get this hidden treasure safely? It is written in this stone inscription. I don’t know if this is true or false. But the story is interesting.

          Lord Basaveshwar is the worshiping deity of this temple. Pooja is performed twice a day. A big fair is held in the month of Shravan. Thousands of people attend. Another special thing about this temple is that every year on the day of Yugadi, the rays of the sun fall on the Basaveshwara idol inside the temple. With this, people here guess the future of the coming new year. If the sun’s rays fall well then it is a good year, otherwise, it is a period of trouble for villagers.
