Shri Mangsuli Mallayya temple is located in the Mangsuli village of Kagwad taluk, Belagavi district, Karnataka state, India. This is the powerful divine place of lord Shiva. The people of Karnataka call this god Mallayya/Martand Dev and the people of Maharashtra call this god Khandoba/Malhari. Mallayya means a man who killed Malla. (Malla = Demon name, Ayya = a man who killed Malla). Malhari means the enemy of Malla (Malla= Demon name, Ari= Enemy). Lakhs of devotees visit here from Karnataka and Maharashtra states. On special days, Anna Dasoha will be there for all devotees.

In the main temple, you will see Lord Khandoba and Goddess Mhalsa together. Mhalsa is the wife of Khandoba and an avatar of Parvati devi. Shri Hegadi Pradhan temple is there next to this temple. Hegadi Pradhan is an incarnation of Lord Vishnu, minister, and brother-in-law of lord Khandoba, brother of Mhasala. In the Vishranti temple of lord Khandoba, you will see lord Khandoba and Banudevi together. Bhanudevi is the second wife of Khandoba and an avatar of Ganga Devi. It is said that only on Sundays, Lord Khandoba stays with Banudevi and on other days he stays with Mhalsa in the main temple. Bhanudevi is kept separate because Khandoba married her without the consent of his first wife Mhalsa Devi. Mhalsa Devi does not like Bhanudevi. Khandoba’s Vahan white horse is the avatar of Nandi.

Two demons named Malla and Mani were started torturing people and sages a lot on the earth. Then all the Saptarishi prayed to Lord Shiva and demand to get rid of them. Then Shiva comes to earth in the incarnation of Khandoba. Goddess Parvati comes with Khandoba in the incarnation of Mhalsa. Togetherly Khandoba and Mhalsa killed the demons named Malla and Mani.
