Specialty of Shri Shantisagar Digambar Jain Ashram Shedbal

              Shri Shantisagar Digambar Jain Ashram (Anath Chatrashram) is located in the Shedbal city of Kagwad taluk, Belagavi district, Karnataka state, India. This ashram has been built in 1927 by Acharya Shri Shantisagar Maharaj to provide education to poor and orphan children. If you are curious to know about the Jain religion then this is the best place for you to visit. Here you will see a big Manastambha, Chaubis Tirthankar temple, Tees Chaubis temple, Bhagwan 1008 Bahubali temple, Nandishwar temple, Samavasarana temple, Bhagwan 1008 Mahavir temple, Bhagwan 1008 Anant Veerya statue, and a beautiful elephant Padma.

1) Manastambha :

           You will see Manastambha in front of every Jainalaya. On seeing this, the Mana (Pride) is destroyed. This means that the arrogance of human beings gets destroyed.

2) Chaubis Tirthankar Temple (Twenty-Four Tirthankar Temple)

             In this temple, you will get the darshan of twenty-four Tirthankar Gods. Here you can see Brahmadev as Kshetrapal. A beautiful idol of Lord Rishabhanatha is here. Lord Rishabhanatha is also known as Adinath. He is the first Tirthankar of the present period. Here you can see the Tirthankar of the Videha region, the Tirthankar of the past as well as 24 Tirthankars of the present period together. Lord Mahavira is the 24th and last Tirthankar of the present period. Now their reign is going on. Along with this, here you will also get to see Tirthankar of the future period and the Panch Parmeshthi Lords. The one who is situated on the supreme post is called Parameshthi. Arhant, Siddha, Acharya, Upadhyay, and Sadhu are the five Parmeshthi Lords in Jainism. They are called Panch Parmeshthi.

3) Tees Chaubis Temple

        You will get a darshan of 720 Tirthankars in this temple. According to Jainism, there are 5 Bharata Kshetras and 5 Airavata Kshetras. There are total 10 Kshetras (Regions). As all know, there are 3 time periods such as past, present, and future. 24 Tirthankars happen in every Kshetra and in every time period. So, in total, there are 720 Tirthankars.

10 Kshetras × 3 Time Periods = 30 Time Periods,
30 Time Periods × 24 Tirthankars = 720 Tirthankars

4) Bhagwan 1008 Bahubali Temple

          In this temple, you will get the darshan of Bhagwan 1008 Bahubali. Lord Bahubali is the son of Rishabhanatha (The first Tirthankar of Jainism) and brother of Bharata Chakravarty.

5) Nandishwar Temple

            Nandishwar temple is the replica of Nandishwar Island (Dweep). Nandishwar Island is the 8th island of Madhya Loka. Human beings do not live after two and a half islands. That’s why humans cannot go to Nandishwar Island. Only the gods can go. Therefore, Jains make a replica of Nandishwar Island in their temples and worship it.

6) Samavasaran Temple

             The name of the religious assembly of Tirthankar Gods’ preaching is Samavasaran. Samavasaran Temple is a replica of Samavasaran. In Samavasaran, Gods, humans, animals, and birds all get shelter equally. Here there are no differences between small and big, Raja and Praja (King and People), poor and rich. There is absolute equality, that is why it is called Samavasaran. Here due to the influence of Tirthankar God, outbreaks like hunger, thirst, disease, grief, death, cold, heat, etc do not occur. There is no lack of space here either. Everyone gets shelter without any discrimination. There is always light. There is no difference between day and night here.

7) Bhagwan 1008 Mahavir Temple (Pawapuri Temple)

Here you will get the darshan of Bhagwan 1008 Mahavir. This temple is the replica of Pawapuri Temple. Pawapuri of Bihar is the place of salvation of Lord Mahavir.

8) Bhagwan 1008 Anant Veerya Statue

          Lord 1008 Anant Veerya is the brother of Lord Bahubali and in Jainism, he is also considered God. This statue is 21 feet tall. There are 1008 special characteristics are found in Tirthankar Gods. Hence the number 1008 is added before the name of the Jain Gods.

9) Elephant Padma

            Padma is the beautiful elephant present in Shri Shantisagar Digambar Jain Ashram Shedbal.
