Shukachari Hills Station is located in the Atpadi taluk of Sangli district, Maharashtra state, India. This hill station is situated at the Mahadev Hills in Atpadi – Khanapur region. There is not much rain in this area. This is a kind of drought-afflicted region. In this area, you will see a little greenery here only. There are mountains and big trees all around. There is a Shukacharya temple in the middle of them. It is also called Shukachari. There is a Gomukhi next to the temple. Water always flows in it even in the summer season.
For local people it is a devotional place, for others, it is a tourist place. There is also a Shivling in this ancient temple. It is believed that this temple was built by the Chalukyas in the 16th century. There are small caves next to the temple. Nandi and Hanuman’s idols are in front of them. Every year a fair is held here in the month of Shravan. The environment of the temple is very peaceful. This place is best for one day family picnic.

One mythology is associated with this Shukachari temple. During the time of Mahabharata, Shuk Muni i.e. Shukacharya sat here for Tapasya. Shukacharya is the son of Vyasa Maharishi. Many people coming here are calling Shukacharya as Shukracharya. Shukracharya was different, he was the Guru of demons. This is Shukacharya. Devendra had sent Rambha to break his Tapasya. But all of this was to no avail. At last, Shukacharya disappears into the caves here. That’s why it is a place of quietness.
